Touched by a Machine

As we are living in lethal times in which our feelings progressively won’t be used anymore in our everyday day living we must stand up as human beings with our Faith and core values in the battlefield of AI technology.

As David defeated Goliath, we must trust in God our creator because we can’t defeat this god machine by ourselves.

I sense an absence of humanity in most of our everyday life endeavors being replaced by the god machine called AI Technology and is taking over our homes, our food, our environment, our communication, our sports, music and entertainment, religious events and most importantly over ourselves.

I remember when growing up my mom used to wait for the letters my father sent her by mail to let her know about things and how he was doing getting a new job in another city, while my mom and us children were stating in Medellin city in a survival mode awaiting for good news to leave that place and change our lives.

I also remember the times when living in the jungles of Chocó, Colombia in a town called Tutunendo, in which our family members lived far away from each other in miles and they passed information from one member to another using their courtesy and good intention to deliver an important message about a family matter, either by letter, a short piece of paper or verbally, just to stay connected.

In those days we did not have any anxiety or rush to find out about certain things, matters or events instantly. We had to accommodate our lives into the situation and wait patiently for whatever answer was going to be while continued resolving life accordingly.

At that time we did not know what a television set was. I barely discovered the radio by accident because my parents were more concerned about working and getting things done for us to eat and to have a home to live rather than looking for ways to keep us entertained.

Years later when we moved to Cartagena city, things started to change and would turnout differently. By then, we had a small TV set in the living room which it will keep our family together at night time when we were watching our favorite shows before going to bed. Most of the times we children were sitting on the floor and having a good time.

At that time, radio was a must in my house. My father loved to hear the News early morning to catchup with the world. My mother listened to the radio novelas every afternoon when sewing our clothes and fixing my father’s socks.

Then the music took over.

My parents loved to listen to every type of music on the radio and on the turntable disc, playing vinyl records and 45’s of boleros and rancheras very loud that we heard it in the entire house.

We, the children were running around the house playing silly games and singing along the music, easing up our hunger for a moment with such a distraction.

What a good time those years were for us because regardless of how difficult life was, we all entertained ourselves by the progress of the incipient technology machine that made us feel so much joy through music, radio novelas, News, and soccer games on radio and television.

But we children didn’t depend on these things for us to be entertained. We used our imagination creating games and using our intelligence and motivation in the fantastic world of children. that is when the little Red Ridding Hood and Superman impersonations took place in our daily games.

I still remember reading the comics and fashion magazines that transported me to another world in which fantasy was queen. I did not depended on other sources for entertainment and motivation to keep my worries away and easy up the dramatic events of my life in those years.

The enjoyment without Home electricity

When we couldn’t enjoy our favorite shows, read a new comics or listen to music on the radio because we did not have power in the house, my siblings and I will turn out to play tag among each other, climb trees in the neighborhood, playing soccer under the rain or just tell stories among each other sitting at the front porch in the middle of the dark and laughing all out while awaiting for the power to come back to the house . No video games, laptops, cell phones, computers or social media needed.

In those times there was also certain excitement to receive a letter or telegram to get information about any particular family member who lived abroad and sent us News about his or her life . Yes, that was very exciting for us. Every time we saw the mailman coming to our home we would make such a commotion jumping around filled with joy and curiosity and screaming “el cartero!, el cartero!” (the mailman, the mailman!)even the dog barked with such excitement. Lol.

Technology was not an essential part of our lives and even though it was breaking through humanity at that time we were getting along with it without losing our identity of thinking humans.

The Impact of AI Technology

Unfortunately, technology has grown in incomparable ways and it seems is taking over by its own and we humans are considered left behind if we are not going on its tempo.

Nowadays, technology is king and wants us to think, talk, and act as machines.

Our lives depend on a cell phone. Could you imagine how miserable I felt one day when I thought I had lost my phone? Then this scary feeling took over me and made me feel so powerless, empty, anxious and mad. I realized how much of my life is on a phone. Not only having personal photos and videos, but music, documents, business records, other people’s information, private conversations, plans, personal data and also my valuable memories of past years.

Losing my phone was like ripping off a piece of me or stripping my life away from me in less of a second and the feeling was horrible!.

Have you ever felt like that?

I don’t know how you feel about it but How you thought about how opur lives are in a CELL (meaning prison) phone? and how much impact we have by keeping everything in a phone?.

At this point of my life I am in the journey of leaving away this means of communication or lessen its activity for a while. But when I am writing songs I use the phone for it to create the drafts and catch up the instant inspiration and this is valuable for me in my creative process. However, I know I must have a balance between the world I want to communicate to and myself.

Sometimes, I can’t stand by those commercials on the internet in which AI is now teaching you how you should think, talk and handle conversations. It also “teaches” you how to behave in certain circumstances to impress others and demonstrate you are assertive and perfect.

It is scary to know that the creators of such a thing can’t find the way to turn the machine off? Or at least to control it. So this means Are we then at the expense of AI in some years ahead? I ask myself.

What would happen with our children and the millennial generation and the generations coming after? How are we going to be able to live with the king machine without losing our essence, feelings, emotions and identity as humans?

What would happen with the lack of creativity and human input into things if we permit the machine to do everything for us supposedly to ease up our lives?

AI Technology in Music

I feel discouraged to know that even our music and arts have been touched by AI. I could’t believe the other day my sister sent me an emotional message in how she was touched by this super perfect singer who went down to the core of her heart with a particular song and she felt identified by it. I discovered it was music created by AI and I let her know, however, my sister said she did not care who sang the song as long as she felt good with it.

Same thing happened with my best friend living in Colombia. She shared me three songs she thought were exceptional music that made her feel indescribably special and wanted me to hear them out.

I researched these songs that sounded so perfect and emotionally connecting to find out they were also created by AI.

Then I let her know that this music was created and produced by AI technology and that she should consider exploring real music sang by real PEOPLE. However, she also said the same thing as may sister said; “As long the song makes me feel good I don’t care who sings it”.

And that is the way people go on these days, numb to the reality of this intangible presence which has so much power in our daily lives, by phones, TV, and AI technology not knowing that what has been created around us is dangerous and wants to take over our lives and this should not be normalized.

As much as civilized this society pretends to be, I think we have stepped back in the thought processing of resolving things by our own efforts and intelligence.

In my opinion, the necessity of being proud of discovering and creating things for the great of humanity certain aspects of it has been lost at the hands of AI technology.

I recognize that some elements of AI can and should be used as tools to improve what we have crafted or created in our expertise to make it more accessible and understandable to others.

However, we should not depend on it in order for us to creatively express our ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions when living in this world.

We now can see how the god machine has replaced men and women jobs and the environment in the world has been affected among other aspects of our lives, creating so much confusion and bipartisan sides in our society.

My conclusion here is that the greediness and need of power of men playing God to control humanity and to rule the world have a great nefasto consequence leaving us with uncertainty and fear in a cloudy limbo of possibilities and not know what to expect next.

May God Almighty protect us and deliver us from Evil. Amen
